The band is performing down on the stage now. Ryan says tonight is a historic night. Simon says it’s not historic and apologizes to the viewers for running so late last week. Because they repeatedly are running late, the judges will be talking 2 at a time after the contestants sing. Thanks a lot, Kara! Simon says it’s mostly the girls’ fault. Hahaha.
This week’s theme is songs from movies and the mentor is Guentin Tarantino.
Allison Iraheta sings “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” from Armageddon. I liked it and thought she made it her own. Paula says she is authentic and a remarkable and talented young lady. Simon thinks she’s the only hope for the girls. She’s getting stronger and more confident. He thinks we could see her all the way to the end of the competition.
Anoop Desai’s singing “Everything I Do, I Do It For You”. I like this song, but the performance was just okay for me. Randy was nervous about Anoop picking this song, but he thought he did a really good job. He was in the zone. Kara says he found his place and this was probably one of his best performances. She felt connected to him singing.
Adam Lambert sings “Born To Be Wild”. Is his hair blue or is it the lighting? I, honestly, can say I don’t think I’ll be buying any of Adam’s records. He’s not my kind of performer. Paula says fortune rewards the brave and he’s one of the bravest contestants she’s witnessed, ever. BTW, her tongue is blue. What’s she been drinking? Simon thinks vocally it was incredible, but a little like watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He doesn’t think this performance was as good as last week’s.
Matt Giraud is singing “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman”. He’s at the piano tonight. Randy says it was interesting. It started out cool, but the bridge got pitchy. He says he fell down in more places tonight than he won. It wasn’t his best. Kara says it’s a struggle between rock and soul song choices for him. It needed to be a masterpiece and it wasn’t.
Danny Gokey’s sporting contacts tonight. He’s singing “Endless Love.” A harp player is on stage with him. Paula says he pulled it together in the middle and held it through the end. Simon says he’s a brilliant singer, but he’s disappointed that he had the harp and the traditional version. He was a bit bored. Simon can tell the song means a lot to him personally, Danny’s emotional, and that’s hard to do. Simon congratulates him for that.
Kris Allen sings “Falling Slowly”. Never heard it. This may hurt him. Randy loves the song, but tonight it was pitchy from note 1. Kara thought it was one of his best performances.
Lil Rounds sings “The Rose”. I didn’t really like it at all. She had some pitchy moments. Paula says it’s one of the most beautiful songs. Sometimes the road is really long, but it’s worth taking when you’ve made it this far. Okay, that was real helpful, Paula. Simon thought she got it completely wrong- the song was too soft for her. She had some nice moments, but he doesn’t believe she’s the same artist they met 7-8 weeks ago. Lil thinks she put her own spin on it.
I tried voting, but couldn’t get through.
Bottom 3 predictions: Matt, Kris, and Lil. Matt goes home.
